A good end to a lousy week!

It's been a long lousy week!  The company I work for moved our offices - dust and all.  (Men!!!!)  I slid and took a tumble while running down a short gravel hill, ending up with scrapes and bruises all over my body.  One of my kids who lives alone with her son, over 2000 miles away from us, ended up in the hospital for a week because of severe infected cat bites from breaking up a cat fight.  And, to continue the cat trouble theme, our 15 year old cat decided to have litter box aversion problems  for the first time ever.  (Do you think it is inhumane to put a cat down for pooping on my carpets?)  (Don't jump on me - I am not serious - although I have to admit the thought really did cross my mind.)   Did I mention that my Parkinson tremors get worse from stress?  Thank goodness it's over!

However I had a good end to this lousy week.  After work tonight, Hubby and I went to our community pool to cool off from this horrible heat wave.  We both worked late so we got to the pool an hour before it closed.  It was nearly empty and it felt so calming and refreshing swimming laps.  Several laps I turned on my back to swim the back stroke.  Staring up at the beautiful dusk lit sky while slowly gliding through the water felt so serene that I could literally feel the stress of the week seep out of me into the water with each stroke.

Then to continue with our de-stressing objective, we undermined the swimming health benefit by driving to Dairy Queen where I enjoyed a delicious Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard.  It was sooooooo good!

YUM YUM!  Definitely a good ending to a lousy week!

Anyone want to adopt a 15 year cat?  She's free!!!!

  1. Heck, after that description, I wanted to go to the pool too! Followed directly by a trip to the local DQ:P

Sorry to hear about the week. It does sound pretty unfair:( DId the moving get done or is there still more work going on? Cause if not, I nominate a new face to be put on your punching bag.

  2. CM does make the pool sound good doesn't she Fay. Try looking up at the dusk lit sky when it's the middle of winter CM! Well, that's my excuse for not swimming laps anymore. Oh wait, my pool is indoors.

Something else you guys have to try when you're swimming laps… I used to do it a few years ago (when I was a bit fitter). You take a big breath and then swim breaststroke along the bottom of the pool, seeing how far you can go on one breath. I found that it can be the most tranquil experience. There is no sound or distraction — just the rhythm of your body's movement and the beat of your heart — and this wonderful peace comes over you. Or maybe it's just a lack of oxygen to the brain. Oh, and that feeling, if it comes, doesn't last very long. Soon after there comes another feeling — that of your lungs shouting at you, 'WHAT THE #$%& ARE YOU DOING?! GET THE #$%& OUT OF THE WATER AND TAKE A BREATH OF AIR!!' After that comes the stage where your lungs try to forcefully depose your mind for control, and take a breath anyway — air, water, whatever you happen to be in at the time. That's when you come up for air!

  3. I did happen to notice that neither one of you did not volunteer to take my cat! Some friends you are. :P

Fay - His face is already on the punching bag - and it is getting punched quite regularly these days.

Donald - You were doing so well - I was feeling the peace! Then you went back into describing my lousy week - cuss words and all. That is exactly how I felt - like I needed to come up for air!!!!

  4. Well, you inspired me CM. Last night I decided I just had to get to the pool and swim a few laps before it closed. I was all ready to go and enjoy the aquatic therapy… Then I couldn't find my swim goggles. I was aware that the pool closing time was approaching as I frantically tore apart the house… and yes, I confess to one or two cuss words and a slammed cupboard door. Unfortunately I do live up to my avatar sometimes.

But the swim (although short) was great, and I plan to get back into it, so thank you!

PS. You can keep the cat.
